Last class on the 18th stuck with me for a little bit while I walked home to my house. There were a couple points that I really enjoyed thinking and talking about. I enjoy doing the readings and coming to class to help get those readings explained to me.
The first point I want to talk about is are the characteristic of film. In mainstream media we get this idea of what a place looks like or "is like." Every time I watch a movie that is filmed in New York, the directors only show us what "we" want to see. They do not show the trash on the side of the street at night or the hundreds of people coming up to you trying to sell you anything and everything. Through movies we see the amazing parts of New York. The director of a movie is smart to show "the cleaner" part of New York because nobody likes to see the 10 Hello Kitty's trying to make a living off taking pictures with tourists. I find it interesting to think about how we have been shown cities or cultures through movies or the media and make a judgment. There is a lot that the media does not show and sometimes "we" forgot to think about that.
